Founded as a family business in 1928, Ridgewells Catering has been raising the bar in the Washington D.C. social scene for over 90 years. Originally formed to cater to the diplomatic corps, Ridgewells has grown over the decades to become a highly recognizable brand name that serves a prominent clientele throughout the Capital region, and one of the mid-Atlantic region’s largest and most iconic caterers.
The social gathering is the foundation of Ridgewells’ core business, and the company has been consistently recognized throughout its history for producing some truly noteworthy events. Over the years, Ridgewells Catering has played a major role in providing catering services to more than eighteen Presidential Inaugurations, and its list of clients include the U.S. House of Representatives, the Pentagon, Fortune 500 companies, educational institutions, world leaders, and thousands of Washingtonians from all walks of life.
In the 1980’s, Ridgewells expanded its operations to include a Major Events division, with the goal of providing the same level of culinary excellence and exceptional service standards to major sporting events as it would for its social events. Throughout its Major Events history, Ridgewells has catered to more than 22 U.S. Open Men’s Golf Championships, 3 U.S. Women’s Open Golf Championships, 3 Super Bowls, the AT&T Golf Tournament, and more. To achieve its quality standards goals and to differentiate itself from large corporate foodservice providers, the Major Events team at Ridgewells immerses itself in each unique location and brings the operation to them, sourcing everything from ingredients to staffing from the local community as much as possible to craft authentic guest experiences that enhance each sporting event.
Ridgewells further expanded its operations in the 1990’s to leverage its nutritional menu planning and expertise to provide lunch services to local area private schools and corporations. As the company continued to expand its business model to include all aspects of hospitality services, it established two additional companies under the Ridgewells Holdings parent brand – Haute Catering by Ridgewells in 2001, the exclusive caterer providing all food and logistics for catered events and meetings at the U.S. House of Representatives and other agencies with Union staffing, and Purple Tie by Ridgewells in 2009, a hospitality staffing agency.
Today, Ridgewells is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, and recently celebrated its 90th anniversary. The team is comprised of award-winning chefs, event designers, and corporate staff who cater high-end corporate and private events. The company is widely known throughout the local Washington D.C. community for its commitment to a wide variety of social issues, direct volunteer involvement, and charitable giving.
